Ombre Dresser {DIY}

There has been a lot of baby talk in our household lately. So instead of diving right in and decorating the nursery I decided to focus on Claire’s room for a while- since most of her stuff will go to Baby #2 it makes sense to start transitioning!

We were lucky enough to get all Claire’s new bedroom furniture from my parents, woo hoo! They just needed a little TLC. I let Claire pick out the colors for her room and these days her favorite color is orange, and we’re talking bright safety orange. As a duck fan, it’s hard for me to go all out orange. So instead of going full on with the furniture I decided to paint the dresser in different shades of orange in an ombre effect to soften the colors up a bit.

I don’t think it turned out half bad! Still in search of the perfect knobs for this thing. The easiest way I found to do this was to go and get a paint sample card and buy a sample can of each color! So easy and so cheap! I think each sample can was about $3 and I had more than enough paint.

If you have an old piece of furniture that needs some sprucing follow the steps below to make your own ombre dresser!

  • Paint card from the store
  • Paint samples of each color in paint card
  • Paint Brush
  • Hand sander or sand paper {if needed, depending on the furniture}
  • Dresser

  • First, prep your painting surface. My dresser had little fish painted on the drawers that were slightly raised so I need to sand them down and then wipe up the dust.

  • Paint each drawer one of the hues of your color choice. I painted one drawer then went on to the next, washing my paint brush in between each switch.

  • Paint as many coats as needed and then allow to fully dry. I had to do 3 coats on paint to fully cover up the fish {I should have sanded them down just a touch more}
  • And there you go!

If you give this a try I want to hear how it turned out for you!!
