Make your house feel like home

We’ve been slowly adding some decorations to our new place to make it feel a little more homey. The amount of home updates we need {painting, new windows, new doors, new trim, tree removal, ant removal, squirrel removal, etc. etc.} can be overwhelming so it’s nice to take a little break to buy a few things to make it feel like we’re not living in a complete construction zone! So today I’m sharing a few of my inexpensive ways to make your house feel like home 🙂

Easy tricks to make your house feel like home:

Furniture: I don’t mean the big ticket items. Even just a few small pieces can make your place feel so much more put together! We’ve literally been living with just a small couch and a small bistro table. We added this cool side table {pictured above} and laptop table for our entryway {pictured below} both from World Market and it’s made a world of difference.

Plants: House plants bring life to a house {literally} and can really spruce up a space, plus they are so inexpensive! We bought this cool fiddle fig tree and white pot from Ikea {the succulent pictured above is also from Ikea}.

Wall Art: Just getting anything on the wall instantly makes a room less empty. The painting above was a Christmas gift from my parent’s a few years ago, I like having unique things like this in our home! We purchased the shelf above the couch {shown below} from Ikea and my plan is to get several different black pictures frames to lean on it {for now we have these owl prints…which I have yet to find a place for this home}. Stay tuned for the finish product.

Throw rugs: Since our place has hardwood floors throughout, it can feel very cold at times. Throw rugs bring some warmth! I love this little throw rug, shown below, that I found, yet again…at World Market.

And there you have it. We’ve still got a lot of work to do but at least it’s feeling a little more like home 🙂
