Frosted Valentine’s Day Cookies {Recipe}

Happy Valentine’s Day! Colin and I will be spending it making dinner, playing with Claire, having some wine, and maybe we’ll search through Netflix for a movie….that pretty much describes every night of our lives. I did decide to make some festive cookies using my tried and true sugar cookie recipe that I make for every holiday. In case you missed it I’ve blogged about it here and here already.

Somewhere in between our old apartment and our new place we lost our heart cookie cutter, total bummer. But I improvised with the alphabet cookie cutters and a knife, thus the reason for some misshaped hearts {I have no explanation for the misshaped letters}.

Plenty of butter on hand!

Cookie Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1 1/2 t baking powder

Frosting Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cup confectioners sugar
  • 1 Tbsp milk
  • Food coloring {optional}

  1. Mix butter, sugar and egg together.
  2. In a separate bowl mix flour, salt and baking powder.
  3. Combine and form into a pancake.
  4. Wrap in plastic and chill
  5. Roll out and cut out dough.
  6. Bake at 350° F for 6-8 minutes.
  7. Let cool while mixing frosting
  8. In a medium bowl cream butter and vanilla.
  9. Blend in sugar in 2 parts, beating well after each addition
  10. Beat in milk and continue mixing until light & fluffy
  11. Add food coloring if desired
