1 Year House Update

2 Flares 2 Flares ×

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving! I have so much to be thankful for, a happy & healthy family, more than enough food, a great job and a roof over our heads! Even though this house is definitely a never-ending project, I am truly thankful for it. I can’t believe we’ve owned this home for over a year already!! Time flies when you’re having fun… 😉

It has been a while since I’ve posted an update on our house projects…so this is long overdue! To be honest if you were to come over it may not look like we’ve done a whole lot {and I often feel this way}, so I gotta keep on pulling out the before pictures to remind myself how much we really have accomplished. Living Room:

Back in May my sister and brother-in-law {and my beautiful niece} came to visit. While they were here they helped install recessed lighting in the living room {it helps that my brother-in-law is an electrician}. Thank you, Thank you to them!!! I am amazed what lighting can do for a room. Seriously makes a HUGE difference. We also bought a few new pieces of furniture and deco to help bring it all together. The living room really is the only “finished” area of the house.

Basement:

We demoed out the basement {and by we, I mean Colin}. It was separated into 2 rooms and had the lovely 60’s wood paneling and a drop ceiling that made the space feel so much smaller. Our plan is to move the dividing wall back a bit, to make a larger family room area and a smaller laundry room area…someday! Although it’s semi-scary looking it works as our TV/Playroom area for now.

Garage:

So our garage was converted into a strange art studio of some sort when we moved in. It had awesome carpet on the ground, wood paneling on the walls and the garage door was even framed in so it wouldn’t open, it also had a drop ceiling that made the room feel very small. Colin gutted the thing, cleaned it out and painted the floor and added some shelving for storage. We plan on keeping the peg board for now, since it works nicely for organizing tools and painting it white.

Next on our list of projects is getting the baby room all set up. We really have so much more we want to do…but we’ll have to stick to small steps for now 🙂
